Transportation Equity Network

The heart of the Transportation Equity Project is the Transportation Equity Network.

The Transportation Equity Network (TEN) is a national coalition of grassroots organizing groups and allies working to advance equity in local, regional and national transportation policies and planning practices. TEN is staffed by the Center for Community Change.

Five organizations created the Transportation Equity Network in the summer of 1997. Today TEN includes dozens of organizations in more than twenty states. Most of these organizations are grassroots, locally-led groups, with boards and memberships of low-income and minority people concerned with the impact of transportation decisions on their communities and quality of life.

The Transportation Equity Network stands for the following:

  1. Increasing resources for public transportation, especially to address the mobility and access needs of low-income and vulnerable populations.
  2. Strengthening public involvement and accountability in the transportation planning process.
  3. Enforcing and strengthening federal civil rights laws and environmental justice guidance in transportation planning and project delivery.
  4. Promoting community development and job creation, especially for low-income and minority communities, through transportation funds.
