At the urging of the Rural Northwest Team and in partnership with the Midwest States Center, two existing organizations (the North Dakota Progressive Coalition and the Dakota Resource Council) recently created the Minot Organizing Project, a new low-income community organization in the agricultural city of Minot, North Dakota. Initially, community leaders in Minot came together when low-wage workers did not benefit from a publicly-funded economic development program. The new Minot Organizing Project is designed to serve as a multi-issue organization.
CCC provided funding to help the organization hire its first full-time staff member. Rural Northwest Team staff are assisting with the recruitment of local leaders and member organizations, fundraising strategies, and a range of organizational development issues. Eventually, the Rural Northwest Team plans to expand this project into other parts of North Dakota, particularly with Native American groups.
