Issues: Movement Vision Project

An Introduction to the Movement Vision Project

As the saying goes, if we don’t know where we’re going, any road will get us there. To build a better future, the progressive movement needs a coherent, common vision — one that represents our values and dreams for America and guides us in inspiring others to share our hope.

The Movement Vision Project, a special project of the Center for Community Change, is identifying and advancing a shared, progressive vision for the future of the United States. Over the next year, the Project will interview several hundred activists nationwide to determine their visions for the issues in which they work. Talking with criminal justice activists, environmental groups, economic rights advocates and others, the Project will examine whether there is a shared vision that cuts across progressive issues. The second phase of the project will work with grassroots and national organizations to forge new ways of working that accomplish short-term goals while advancing a long-term shared vision.

As its primary goal, the Project seeks to promote a widespread focus on long-term vision — the cornerstone of strategic, progressive movement building.
