The team blends the organization’s 35-plus years experience in the areas of community organizing, organizational development and housing policy.
Mary Brooks directs the Housing Trust Fund Project. She launched the project in 1986 and has amassed nearly 30 years of policy and capacity-building experience in affordable housing, as well as unparalleled expertise in housing trust funds.
Nina Dastur brings her legal background and her expertise in housing policy to the Washington, DC Catalyst Project, which is housed at the Center for Community Change. The Catalyst Project supports participation in local policymaking by community residents, and promotes equitable development in the District. The project was instrumental in conducting the successful campaign to ensure full funding of the District’s Housing Production Trust Fund.
Karen Shakira Kali assists Mary Brooks as an Associate on the Housing Trust Fund Project. She brings to her work technical skills and a strong commitment to affordable housing. She has done neighborhood revitalization work in Des Moines, Iowa, and conducted low-income housing market studies for a Virginia based urban planning firm. Karen received her Masters in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University.
Lynn Kanter is the Center’s Associate Development Director. She helps to raise resources for the Center's activities by writing grant proposals and funder reports on issues that include affordable housing, immigration, jobs and education. She has worked at the Center since 1992.
Kendra Wess provides program support for the Housing Team. She comes to the team from the Center’s Communication’s Department where she helped to implement the organization’s overall media and communications strategy. Kendra received her Bachelors of Arts in Public Relations/Broadcast News from North Carolina A & T State University.
