Propositions 100 and 102 are slaps in the face to our judicial system and our state's constitution. They both interfere with judicial independence.
Don't Give Abusive Employers a Free Pass
Punitive damages are awarded to victims. When a court funds evidence that an individual or corporation "acted with an evil mind, an evil heart and an evil hand" – the legal standard for awarding punitive damages – that person should be compensated. Proposition 102 seeks to protect individuals and corporations who mistreat victims by ensuring that they don't have to pay punitive damages if they are found guilty of abuse.
Farm Bureau: No on 102
Abuse should not be tolerated in Arizona. Punitive damages are only awarded to victims of abuse. Punitive damages aren't just given to anyone – they must be awarded by a court of law to deserving victims.
Under Proposition 102, abusers will be given a free pass to continue to terrorize victims. That's not the American way. We believe that all victims are entitled to their rightful compensation. Don't just take our word for it – the Arizona Farm Bureau also opposes Proposition 102. They write:
