Community Leaders
Katie Dusenberry - Vice-Chair of the RTA, former Pima County Board Supervisor:
Proposition 300 turns off access to higher education opportunities
thousands of Arizona's children. It is bad for Arizona and bad for the state.
Dorothy Finley - Civic leader, former teacher and Chairman and CEO of Finley Distributing:
Proposition 300 may have been well intended, but the truth of the matter is that it is simply bad for business and bad for Arizona.
Anita Lohr - Former Pima County School Superintendent for 31 years:
Passage of Proposition 300 will not solve the problems causing illegal immigration to the U.S. Passage of Prop 300 will only stymie the opportunities for friends and neighbors in our current community to obtain educational advancement and to become more productive, contributing members of our society.
A Pastoral Statement from the Arizona Catholic Conference Bishops:
This measure, among other things, would deny in-state college tuition to many students who came to our country at a very young age and have no home. It is patently unfair to deny these children, who have graduated from Arizona elementary and high schools, the same opportunities afforded to the rest of their classmates. We urge you to vote no on Proposition 300 because it would unnecessarily punish these children and deny them an opportunity to become productive members of society.
While nations need to protect their borders, we ought not as a society impose punitive measures on children and prevent them from educational opportunities.
BethAnn Johnson - Educator at Pima College, PCIC Leader, Member of St. Pius X Catholic Church:
Prop 300 contains three detrimental components that will cause greater suffering to our state's most vulnerable children and adults. First, it would deny childcare to children who are American citizens; second, it would deny access to higher education to successful youth who would contribute to the economic growth of our state, and finally, it would deny hardworking adults access to basic adult education programs.
As an educator of both adults and children, I completely oppose this malicious Proposition and urge all Arizona voters to consider the destructiveness of this proposition to our communities before voting.
